How about a box on the entry form that asks what score you honestly think your picture deserves, not what you expect it to get? Just wondering....
The more I look at my candid, the lower the score I would give it. When I entered I thought it was a five, but I DEARLY love the subjects. Now I think it's a 4. Should I even enter a photo if I thought it was below average? What if I thought it was a 2?
It might explain some of the score squabbling if the expectaions could be compared with the results. Also the submitter would take a hard look at what they want. Are they going for a great score or helpful comments.
I think this is an interesting idea. You can do this "voluntarily" now by entering "your" score in the additional information text field; it will show up on the the photo's results page when the voting concludes.

We can raid the database to see who's most "accurate" (or honest?) over the course of 4 or so challenges.
Would you enter "your" score as an integer or 3-place decimal?

My problem is that I think most of my own photos should score a 10... is that conceited or what? Not really... In most of these challenges, I have submitted photos that i was totally happy with, hence my vote of 10.
What causes me to change my mind about what my photo should score is when I start comparing it with other shots in the challenge. I always see photos in each challenge that i like better than my own...
Hmmmm... I don't really know about the usefulness of this, because my photos usually fall in the kind of category of the ones I give 8s or 9s to, but those photos usually end up with scores anywhere between 4 and 6... NEVER 8 or 9. So how useful would it ever be to compare my self-score to the one I get in the results? My average vote given is almost 7!

Out of 19 challenges I have a handfull I could actually see in print (I have 3 that have been used commercially).
I don't know how everyone here enters the weekly challenge but I don't need to have a 10 in my mind to enter the photo. I have entered what I have felt to be above average photos and some have more meaning than others to me. But I have a lot of photos on pbase that are far superior to my dp challenge entries.
Sometimes I enter stuff just to see peoples reaction like Funken Egg. It's fun to tweak the system once in a while :-)
