Natasha, the aspect ratio is new to me also. Basically it's just the relation of the width and height of your picture, and that's important so that when it's printed, the picture won't be distorted (or stretched) in one direction or another to fit the size of the print. I use PS Elements and when I crop a picture, PSE doesn't seem to tell the "aspect ratio" if it would that would really help so that I don't mess this up during a crop. Well have fun and experiment with it, you'll get the hang of it.

actually, just the smaller "preview-type" image counts, the one you'd size down to about 640 pix (though i dont think that size rule applies to the portfolios, just try to keep iit down to save space) actually counts towards the 10 megs.. and thank god.. or else i've barely be able to sell a print :)
No -- the printable versions do NOT count against the space quota, nor do actual challenge entries. Only additional portfolio images (at <150k/each) count.

A crop of equal ratio is fine, but you need the minimum number of pixels listed in the table of print sizes.
Let me know what software you're using and I'll offer more specifics -- there's also two tutorials available of prepping images for print and resampling which you can check out.
Just a quick suggestion - you might get a few more sales if you had an option (besides email, dpIM) whereby a user who wants a print of a certain image can hit a button which sends a request to the photographer to upload a printable version. There will probably be very many desirable photos that might never have a printable counterpart, as many photographers will either think they'll never sell or just never get around to uploading them.

well it depends on the photo as to which software I use. I use both corel photo paint and MGI photo suite.. I dont use corel for everything because of what it does to any pic I open up with it... the image automatically changes and then I have to edit it from the get go.. cant just open and crop... cropping to a minimum of the spec'd pixels is easy enough... some will be bigger and as long as I meet the ratio I see that's ok.. but what about the DPI??? and what is with resampling.. never heard of that

I think (but am not sure) that there is/will be a notification sent to the photographer when someone adds a portfolio image to their wishlist. I don't think you will have to request it directly...

anyone else care to help out with the dpi and resampling issue? there doesnt seem to be a way to see the dpi and whats this resampling good for? is it necessary?
sigh, yes I have seen that tutorial, unfortunately the software in the tutorial is nothing like mine.. :o(
The very short version is that the number of pixels on each side of your image must be the number of inches on that side times 150 at a minumum. It can be more, but cannot be anything less.
For example, the smallest image that can be printed at 8×10 is 8×150 pixels by 10×150 pixels, or 1200×1500 pixels. It can be more (as long as the ratio is the same), but anything smaller is not printable at 8×10.
I'm sure someone will tell me why this is a bad idea, but I've been using .png files instead of .tifs -- they're a lossless (as far as I can determine) compression format, so your file sizes are down (perhaps not as small as a .jpg, but definitely smaller than a .tif). Even better, ezprints accepts them so you get a better portion of both worlds.
Ooops ... you can make your current challenge image the 'representative' photo for a folder. This is small, and I hope people don't (unless they are like me and just have to try it and than remove it again :-P ), but maybe something to add to your 'do later' list.
Btw, DPCPrints turned out phenomenal, and so did the portfolios :) Great job, guys!
Another small thing I just noticed ... photos that have been added to the portfolios and are not part of any challenges show up at the end of the list of photos under each camera (Cameras => Browse => Pick the camera you want to look at => Click Browse in the title bar above the photos, then scroll to the end), but the actual thumbnail doesn't display.
