These aren't necessarily my favorite shots, but they are near the top of my personal favorite list for sure. I have some favorite shots that don't meet the perfect photo criteria because I think they could be better.

Wow! What great shots! JAK I always really liked your "Desparate" shot. Amy, tell us some more about the "Dancin' the night away" shot. Is it done with post-processing or was the lighting that way. It is really awesome. Scab, the skateboard shot is awesome too. So much talent here.
I know that by far, my favorite of mine is THIS SHOT that really hooked me on DPC. It is a shot of my very favorite subject and won my only ribbon among my near misses. I've learned so much since then but I still go back and look at it and wonder what I was thinking!
wow. The variety of everyone's favourites is amazing: says something about why photography is so intriguing - in that there IS no 'perfect photo': not for everyone. Some humblingly good stuff here though.

About Dancing the Night Away this is actually straight from the camera ... no post processing ... maybe one touch of sharpen whole image ... but I just happened to catch the lighting and that couple ... and I was sitting about 20 feet from them ... thanks :)
The Golden Gate Bridge photo is breathtaking! It looks perfect to me!
Thanks everyone for your nice comments...all the photos posted are great. John, I like that bluesman shot of yours best of all. Being a guitarist I have a soft spot for them Gibsons.
That Golden Gate shot was taken 1024x768 (long road trip to San Francisco, thank you Memory Stick!) handheld at full frame (no crop) and almost no levels adjustment. Unsharped it once and converted to greyscale. The colour version isn't so great...the bridge isn't so much red as faded orange (on that side, anyways) and in some spots grey or brown. I like how the fog makes the lampposts stand out in a 3D-sort of manner. Noticed that afterwards, of course...as with most of my best photographs, I shot it full automatic and let the camera choose the correct settings (shhh!).
Was driving north up Highway 1 in my Miata (highly recommended trip). A shot I took over the windscreen, also one of my faves, about 20 minutes later:

This is one of my favorites...has not really been edited (Unsharp, etc), but I did apply PSE2 effects to a copy of it to look give the appearance of hand painted. Surprised I got the picture at all, with one arm being pulled out of its socket and trying to steady for the shot at the same time. (C:

I agree with the idea that it would evoke strong feelings that could cover anything across the full spectrum of human emotion and is meaningful to the photographer.
It should also be technically perfect: cropping, lighting, shadow, color (or lack thereof) and positioning of the subject in the frame.
