Does this work for the 350d? It doesn't seem to mention it at amazon. also does it do anything that I can't do with my laptop and the softare that came with the camera?
No, you cannot use this remote for the 350D. You can achieve similar effects with a laptop and Canon Remote Capture though.
Okay, I'm the one that made the timelapse stuff. I found this site looking at the report from my site. Seeing how people have been getting to it.
The opening shot of LA was a fixed exposure. It was almost dark when I started it and I shot for about 20 minutes. The shutter remains open for 2 seconds and then another picture is taken right afterwards. Everything I do is at a 24 frame time base, just like film. So for every second there are 24 pictures that just went by. Everytime I go out I take around 300 or more pictures per clip.
You can't do the same effect with a video camera. You can get it kind of close but nothing to the degree a DSLR can do. Plus all these shots are way above HD resoultion. I use Final Cut Pro to make these clips. But I have been using Motion latey because it has better color rendering. You could also use After Effects if you have it.

Keegbow, I have three batteries but I don't even go through one shooting three or four clips. So no, it isn't a big drain on the battery.
Hsteg, I don't know premeire but you might be able to. Look for something in the import section of it to see if you can import a sequence of still frames. You might have to create a file with just the frames you want to use and select that to import. If you can it should import them in numerical order. Also if your going to do some timelapse shoot it in the RGB color space, not sRGB.
