After gaining some inspiration from some of these phenomenal transformations I figured I would give some of these techniques a go. I am stillpretty new to using my Photoshop Elements program, but these threads are great learning tools. I would welcome any comments or tips.

Im so impressed here. I want to see more before and after shots. I see now my problem is not in the images but having the creative part of my post work that needs work. Some of these images are very plain and they do not jump out at me, but after the photographer does there PS magic, everythings comes out and a excellent photo appears.
Agreed. I think I'm going to have to break down and spend a trillion dollars to get Photoshop and take a course at the local community college since I can honestly say I have no clue what I'm doing for the most part with my post-processing.
Guessing isn't cutting it at this point and I just can't follow tutorials without having a more one on one guidance. I'm mental that way. :D
To LucidLotus.... Photoshop Elements is more than capable of giving your photos an amazing lift... it has only a slightly more basic RAW converter than CS2 and the whole package is £69 which is a pretty good deal IMO.

The reason why it is in b&w is because a color version was already in my portfolio:

Just a few. All the originals are resized straight from the camera jpegs. Surely I didn't make the right decisions, while shooting and while processing. Just having fun (sometimes it isn't fun at all when your photo drops and drops and drops).
Also note that all I care about while shooting with the D70 is saving the highlights. I do not bother with any other setting except exposure settings because I set all the stuff in the Nikon Capture raw converter afterwards. That's why many photos are so dark.

That is a good idea. My mom is a teacher so if I can scrape up the money (I want the full package!) I might be able to con her into ordering it for me. I'd better hurry before she retires though..
I'm hoping that if I take a PS class I'll learn enough to be able to translate it easily into GIMP usage.. at least until I can afford Photoshop CS2 or whatever they are up to now.
