Well, if you think that's confusing... normally those parts of Australia that observe daylight saving would have switched back to standard time this past weekend. But because of the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne (like the Olympics, but only for British Commonwealth countries), daylight savings time has been extended for an extra week.
This has caused all sorts of chaos and computer problems because some computers have gone back, others haven't. Microsoft issued a patch for Windows systems, but it only worked for some computers not all - and some organisations chose not to deploy it because it broke Outlook. Similar levels of variation in the non-Windows worlds.
I am so glad I don't have to worry about changing time here in Arizona.
This is news to me too! :-) I'm going on a road-trip to AZ and NM (from CA) in a couple weeks, so if I understand this correctly: I'll have to set my clocks backwards an hour upon crossing the CA/AZ border, then change them back to California time upon crossing the time zone, and then set them an hour ahead upon crossing the AZ/NM border? And then do it all in reverse on the way back? Holy Moley!
Not quite. During the summer, Arizona is the same as California (PDT=MST). During the Winter, Arizona is the same as the rest of the Mountain time zone.
