I saw a movie on TV just a few weeks ago that would qualify for this, but for the life of me I cannot remember the title. It was about a painter during late 1800s/early 1900s - he painted portraits of women, then turned one of them into a poster that was displayed all over town. He became very famous as a result. I think the story took place in France. Maybe some of you out there know who I am talking about. The film producer used unusual perspective shots and lighting to show this painter as a man whose legs had stopped growing when he was a child due to some accident or illness. (I'm certain the movie was about a real painter?) The actor who played the role was full grown with normal legs. Anyone know the title of this movie?

i think the movie you saw was the 1952 version of "Moulin Rouge". the movie was a fictional account of the life of artist Henri de Toulouse-Latrec. it was directed by John Houston and starred Jose Ferrer as Toulouse-Latrec.

I saw a stunning Brazilian film a couple of weeks ago called "City of God" ("Cidade de Deus", 2002). It is directed by Fernando Meirelles and explores organised crime (grug dealing, racketeering, gang warfare, this sort of things) in the suburbs of Rio de Janeiro. Was a toast of the Cannes Festival last year.
The film is shot and narrated from the point of view of a boy learning to be a photographer - stylish framing, beautiful black on black effects, the tragic story of the first pro camera and the serendipity of becoming a photojournalist for a national paper.
