But Gordon is not quite correct in his assesment. You do have an eye for art in life. You just look from a different angle.
The specific style of photography I like is nature and sports. But I really admire the folks who can manipulate objects for very clean and stylized photography. I try for these things but usually I am just a step or two from getting my desired results.
Gordon is very good at taking very simple objects and making a photo attractive..as a matter of fact..there are a lot of folks here that are very good at that. My idea is to go a bit more montage like.
Montages are difficult becasue if you don't get things (meaning angle, light, seperation and combination of elements) right it looks busy and stiff. By simplifying the amount of components/objects in my photo I can get a more natural look but that is a different style of photo and is done a lot already by other folks to greater effect. Remie, Kimberly and Gordan jump to mind of folks very good at the simple element shot.
Take my "Tea Time at Martha Stewarts" or a "The Day the Music Died". Slight variations are needed to get a better effect. "The Day the Music Died" I would like to have a stage with a spotlight on an empty stool slightly out of focus as my background instead of just a sparkle fabric. It would give a cinematic feel to the shot.
The "Martha Stewart" idea has 2 or three photos in one there. Maybe a shot over slightly out of focus candles
focusing on the glasses/lemon with the backlighting.
"Funken Egg" needed a removal of the feathers and the glasses. Just the egg and the face would have been good enough.
What I do notice is if any photgrapher spends a lot of time working on set-ups and things it makes it easier to get interesting shots out of found shots. When I walk around now I see shots better because i work hard on set-ups.
I guess I feel I will be better for the effort..even if my shots look "hokey" now :-)
