This isn't the first one. Didn't we have another one for New Years?
It's just a Hallmark holiday. I really can't stand the horrible, cutesy/trashy imagery of Valentine's day, so I don't think I'll vote on this one. I'll be interested to see if someone from another country, say Japan, that doesn't really understand the "meaning" behind it submits something interesting :). I think businesses over there reinterpreted it into a day where women give their boyfriends or husbands something red.
Valentine's day is depressing enough without my escapes from such things being infiltrated with it.

I am similarly conflicted about this one...but there's nothing in the challenge (presumably) preventing us from depicting the event as a negative experience; such an image would at least stand out if not be popular.
You could always explore the origin of the "event" (the death of St. Valentine)...THAT should get everyone equally depressed.

Seperatly from the choice of the topic, I regret the fact it is made public several days in advance. I think it defeats the purpose of a speed challenge. Many people actually do their pictures in one day in the normal challenge after having thought about them during the week. Were is the difference. It would be more fun if it was a real suprise.
We might be all surprised. It might be something different, such as Hearts, or Arrows, or Pheromones. lol. I'm going to keep my mind open and only commit to a shot when I see the challenge description.

Where is the information about the Speed Challenge? I didn't receive any email about it nor did I see it on the site! Oh well, how can I be so lost! ha ha! help!
Sounds like a great shot. Make sure you are on your knees begging for her to stay; then she throws the content of her wine glasse in your face, calls you a pathetic little man, then slams the door. Should be easy to shoot. I'm sure you'll get it on the first try.
