Am fairly sure this is a waste of time, but I am stubborn too! LOL Garrfoster, glad you have joined "us" here, but I had to reply to your post about the zoological gardens and the animal shots from them.
First off, as someone else has said - and it is true - that a lot of our national parks feed and protect their "wildlife" at the first signs of adversity, which is fine, but if you took a shot at yosemite in winter of the wapiti eating from an obviously large, man made feeding area, does this make them in a zoo, or equivelant?
Now the other problem I have with the zoo shot haters is this. Who is going to judge SOME of the shots as to their origin? If you have ever visited Busch Gardens or Disneyworld African Safari - both zoos - you KNOW anyone with a fair camera can take shots of "wildlife" kept in enclosures so cleverly hidden as to be almost impossible for you to see them if you were THERE, let alone in a photo from there!! The opposite side of that coin (I live in Florida, so will use this example, but similar places are all over), is a place like "alligator alley" which is a road that goes across the southern part of Fl and has LOTS of gators and other wildlife there. Now if I (or anyone else) stops and takes a photo of one of those gators - easily done, btw - and it shows a fenced area (all around the area, mostly to keep the gators off the roads and out of the pavilion areas), would you not look at that and think that was a zoo? I know I would probably think that.
So, if you want to deduct points from "zoo" shots, seems to me the ONLY way to be sure they are from zoos is to ask the photographer where the pic was taken, otherwise, IMO there are few ways to be sure!! I know that SOME of the shots - to me a VERY few though, appear to be from a zoo, but I will NOT vote down any because of that, as I will give all the benifit of doubt. Thanks for listening!!
Your points were well presented and are very accurate. All in all I'm just going to say that it is for the photographer to determine what is wild and what would be considered domesticated. He/she knows what a wild animal is.
I really wish this hadn't turned into a controversial thing :)
I had alot of fun with this challenge. I went to the same pond for 4 days trying to catch this turtle poking his head out of the water, though everytime I released the shutter, he ducked back under! Time for me to get a member account here and actually participate in all of them.

HaHaHa.. Been there, done that! I find that if I really want the shot, I have to stake the critter out. And not get distracted by passersby who want to know "what'cha doing?" The minute I get into conversation, the bird takes off, the turtle ducks under, the duck eats my bribe...well you get the picture.
I'll bet there are a dozen reasons why that shot got missed.
I've got two 1s in two votes, and no, noone came in the past 20 minutes to readjust!
I don't think I deserve ones, and before you ask - do you deserve 10s, I think two things:
1) yes
and
2) for a shot that averages around 6, someone giving a 10 is equivalent to someone giving it a 2, not a 1. Ones are offset by 11s.
I can't wait til tomorrow. :) So I can get my best of 2005, 4.9 off my front page. I am so tired of looking at it. :) I'm also anxious to see the winning shots. There were so many great shots it would be hard to guess which ones will come out on top.
My wildlife has gone up a little more and has 1 fav and 1 wishlist. I didn't expect this one to do as well as it has.

It all depends on where you live. In Texas the rollover starts at 11pm on Tues. night and we usually find out before midnight on Tues. So the way I worded it was right for me.
I am happy that after having to look at my best of 2005 being 4.9 for most of the time, it's now 5.0116. That just looks so much better. lol
My wildlife is still sitting about the same it was yesterday. I am going to predict about 26th place on it. Anyone else want to make a prediction on theirs? :)
This is my first entry, but yesterday I would have predicted TOP HALF! But the way it dropped overnight, I'm predicting, BOTTOM HALF! :( Still, it was fun and I'm learning a lot!

Edit for spelling.
Hi Henry. Congratulations on your first entry. The site is working like it should for you if your having fun and learning. This is only the beginning for a major addiction too. :)

I predict 27th place for mine! ;)
I'd be honored sitting next to you Cindi. :)
Good luck Robert! That would be a great placing and even better with having only entered a handful of challenges.
