And (YIPPIE!!!), this is the first challenge (for me atleast) where I can try my hands on ADVANCED EDITING. Its been moved to Advanced Editing category. Thanks DPC :)
i will be doing Henri Cartier-Bresson, lets hope for the best. Finding good candid is difficult thing.

Nope. Henri Cartier-Bresson, reputedly the greatest street candid photographer of the 20th century print all his work with no post-processing whatsoever. Every image unprocessed, uncropped, straight out of the camera.

I am intending to do Dorathea Lange. I am taking the world as it exists today, imagining what kind of images she would do today, and I am going out to do it. Now if I can only get the courage to actually go up to the people I am interested in to ask if I can take their photo.
I, for one, will include the artist in my title. I was seriously considering my title being a link to some of the photographer's work. That makes it a little easier for people to see what I'm going after.

Yes, as it should be. The challenge is to be "inspired" by another photographer's work, not to "copy" it. "Inspiration" might include "I wonder what sort of work Imogen Cunningham would have done if she had access to digital color photography?" and the result would be YOUR interpretation of where she might have gone.
I think it would be fairly obscene if the voters based their scores on whether your "interpretation" agrres with theirs. I'd expect these images to be judged on photographic merit across the board. I don't see any significant number of people taking the time to google up photographers they don't know to check "faithfulness". In fact, I'd suspect (I could be wrong) that those who choose an "iconic" photographer like Ansel Adams will be at a disadvantage, in the sense that they may be judged on fathfulness-to rather than inspiration-by.
I for one am going to consider the tributed photographer in my score, but that includes inspired new directions (in fact, a particularly inspired new direction will garner even more points). As long as I can "see" the connection to the original artist.
OK, I have officially entered and I predict my lowest score ever. Not because it's rushed or not good (it's niether), but because it's a) easy and b) not "DPC". However, I think it's an excellent take on a photographer and I guess this is to prove to myself that I don't care about the scores as much as I sometimes think I do.

I'm in the same boat - I expect my lowest score as the picture is definitely not DPC (but very much inspired by a particular photographer, and pretty darn close to their imagery (IMO)). I have decided to include the "inspired by" photographer's name in the title. A 5sec search of the web will provide numerous examples of their work as well as descriptions of their style - anyone who spends those 5sec's will understand the picture.
Here's my vow to the challenge entrants - during voting, if I do not know the photographer your picture is inspired by, I will not vote on your picture until I have done some quick research on the photographer. If you did not include the photographer's name in the title, then I will vote solely on the merits of the picture itself. Keep in mind, Ansel Adams failed to win a ribbon in the Ansel Adams challenge. Dorothea Lang, Weston, Henri Cartier-Bresson and some of the other Masters would probably have a hard time scoring here too.
Also, I found, my selected photographer's work on the web showing drastically different depending on which web site you visit. Some of the black and white photos are displayed as duotones on another site. Some are dark and high contrast and others soft gray and grainy. What a shame. There really is nothing like viewing the actual works of these artists. So... I guess the winner , as usual, will need something more than ordinary to score well. I don't think mine will do well, but it's in there.
I just realized the rollover is in less than ten minutes! Yikes....maybe I should pull mine before the trolls kill me. I really do think I did a good job for a tribute to my photog...but he's not a well known photog. I have less than 5 minutes to decide what to do. aaaggh
Either mine will rock or Im looking at my lowest score ever.. Screw it stays, Why do torture myself... This one so not inline with my style but oh well...
Geez... I turned my submission in with less than a minute to spare, and when I submitted it, I got the "please wait" screen.. I was sure that it was too late. So I went to console myself with a bowl of cereal and returned to find the challenges page up, with a nifty little update button!

Man I was just ready to pass out. I worked really hard on this one and honestly, as long as it scores better than my previous one - 3.9 I think? - I'm happy. :)

This was a very difficult challenge for me that took me pretty far outside of my comfort zone. My end result is quite different from the sort of thing I normally go for, and it's not DPC-friendly at all. But I submitted it anyway.
I think that voting well on this challenge is going to require a somewhat different eye from what is normally required.
