Unfortunately, I think a lot of people think they have to rate the photos against each other, on a curve.
I believe each photo should be rated on its own merits, and that this type of challenge is one where it's quite legitimate to state "all of the photos are above average" (with apologies to Garrison Keillor).

When I'm rating photos I seem to end up doing just that. I end up going back and looking at each photos rating when I'm done and in alot of cases I'm changing my ratings. Sometimes alot.
I seem to get previous pics I liked for one reason or another in my head and start comparing.
It really isn't fair. Each photo SHOULD be judged by it's own merit.
Ha! Short lived. Just wanna score over 6 in this challenge and make it to my front page ;) I'm not asking for much :) But I'll be crawling to get back up there ;) Good luck all.
I don't imagine he can, but is rather speculating.
In the Best of 2004, the very first 6.0 score finished in 158th out of 531 entries. Considering the number of entries in this challenge, it could be safe to assume that a score in the 6.0 range could well finish in 300th place.

I think this is hilarious ... how can people score badly when you can't DNMC .. and the focus is on the best of someones pictures in a year. You still have to stun to score high .. but there are some fantastic entries there, and every single one meets the challenge!

HeHe! Maybe that is the standard comment I should give out during the challenge. It couldn't be any further off the the comment I got on mine a while ago.
Just like last year, though, I'm amazed at the crap some people post as their best shot of the year. There's some good stuff, but there's also some fantastically bad stuff.

I didnt realize that someone could be handing out 2s and 3s in this challenge. Espcially knowing that this will be a high scoring challenge. However I was proven wrong. I just received a 2 and 3 respectively.
i think when i will vote on this challenge i will cut and paste
"this is DNMC, you are recieving this comment because some moron gave me this comment"
he he he

Commenting on pictures .. am I a bag head moron ... or should I comment at all...love this voting thing sometimes. :(
The person who made the comment is not a moron because he/she has a bag head. The bag head is something you can click off and on. Whoever made the comment was probably born that way.

While I would agree that there's probably no cause for voting less than a 4 on anything (I haven't looked at any of the photos yet, but I say this in good faith), all photos have to stand on their own in this challenge. In non-free-study challenges, photos that meet the challenge particularly well would get extra points for it; in this challenge, that's impossible.
" Wonder " many not best I have seen
