Saracat, I had similar trouble - it turned out that I was posting the links outside of certain header tags.
In your template, there will be a lot of code at the top that defines how the sidebar looks. Scroll down past that. Look for code that defines your sidebar: something like "" and also look for the place in the code where the things that are already in your sidebar exist (Recent posts, Archives, etc.) Post the links there and try it again.
I wanted my links to only appear on the main page and not on the item or archive pages, so I added before the list of links and after the list of links. This was just a personal preference.

This is great, I've been wanting to create some blogs for ages.

Aaah, my blogroll just got updated. I will try to go through and at least comment on everyone's first post, and I suppose as long as I'm home for break I'll be dropping comments everywhere, but once the semester starts again I'm sure I'll have enough trouble keeping my own posts up to date.
Those of you who've already started, they look awesome. I can't wait to see all the shots that'll come out.
Think about it, when all of us are done there will be over a thousand photographs.
