I did not enter this challenge. I just got finished voting on the challenge. If in the last three hours you got a 1 or a 3 it was probably me. This is the lowest scoring challenge I have voted on ever (my average vote given prior to this challenge is a 5.8 just for the record) I left some comments - mostly the same one - where is the grain? I viewed all images on two separate monitors to make sure I was seeing the same thing consistently before I voted.
Since when does out of focus equal image grain?
Since when does image grain only affect a part of a picture?
Since when does an out of focus background equal image grain?
Since when do walls and such that have texture equal image grain?
Well I did what I set out to do, create the effect in-camera, but what I neglected to do was look beyond the noise and determine if the image would have cut it in a normal challenge. I guess not.

ok, one more vote, down to a 4.6. What a joke! Someone is giving this a 1 or a 2 and I thought it was one of my better photos. For goodness sakes, my reflection score, which is total and utter rubbish is doing better than this and I hated that one! (and to make matters worse, it wasn't even a reflection and it scores better!) Ok, going to make a nice strong coffee.
there are some great images but the rest just dont show anything. To me, to make the image of "grain" appealing it has to have an effect on moi. Which some do, but most do not.
Mine seems to be a love/hate thing though the average is hovering around 4.7. I'll see it jump (love) with a few votes then I'll see it tumble (hate) with the next few. One comment so far.

It seems kind of "spooky" that our scores are exactly the same at 52 votes. The views are almost the same, too.
I haven't had a picture entered in a long time as we've been so busy getting things done around our house and yard in preparation for winter. It would have been nice to get a higher score but I'm pleased it's not in the 4's since I'm kind of rusty with picture taking and editing.
I it just me or is there a lack of grain in many of the entries? I expect the majority of the light on white will be very white, but here in the grain challeng I think our love of silky tones and use of neat image has lessened our notion of grain to the point where anything that is not as smooth as silk is concidered grainy. I want chunky, dirty grainy blobs of tone, not just a touch too much USM. A rough look can be an effective and emotional choice to convey a mood. Bring back the noise, bring back the funk!
