From the house, Fountains Abbey/deer park/water garden is 5 minute drive. Brimham rocks is 10 minute drive further on same road. Bolton Abbey (+ beautiful scenery on way) is 25 minute drive further along same road. Skipton further still.
Ripon itself is 2 minute drive/ 8 minute walk before visiting "one eyed rat"(indeterminate number of minutes walk home) - still has hornblower setting the watch ceremony every night at 9pm.
York is 40 minutes drive in opposite direction.
Many other places of interest within easy reach.
Hope this whets peoples appetite for a visit.

I`ve been on dpc for ages now and never realy dropped into the forums until now. I live on the Costa Del Accrington in Lancashire and would love to meet other keen photographers that live in the same area.
Could I come too?
As for locations when I have visited Fountains Abbey and Studleigh Royal in the past I have found some of the oldest and most beautiful sights I have ever seen in my life.
I have a few photo`s of Fountains online if you want to see what it is like with a view to a visit. ( //www.artwanted.com/saswaa ).
Once you get there click on view all images (bottom of page), the ones at fountains are all arches etc, also there are a couple of deer from Studleigh, The waterfall is at Ingleton as is the sunset, the one with the horns is Skipton castle and all within the white rose county, and are equally good places to play (with good water holes!!).
I could travel to save space, only an hour or so away from most places in that neck of the woods (speed camera`s allowing, faster). Can I play please??

Of course you can - love to meet you although I wouldn't plan on getting home if it's a good night at the pub! Seriously we can sort out a place to lay your head!
If it`s a good night in the pub you would probably find me `neath a bush in the wilderness the morning after.
I would love to bring my partner Liz too as she enjoys the outdoors as much as I do. Actually on a weeks leave back end of October as it`s her birthday on the 30th. A good excuse to bend the rules on safe amounts of alcohol to be consumed.

See what age does for you - makes you miss all sorts of things. OK Bob, the house is here with several spare rooms, we are here almost all of the time, suggest alternative dates.
Might also be worth keeping an eye on Manic's London GTG thread. If some of the Southerners (such as Manic himself) are planning to attend the Yorkshire GTG it wouldn't work if it was same date as the London one!
Just a thought for you - it's likely I won't be able to attend either this time around!
