Okay, now I can't figure out who's more twisted. You people for coming up with these sick interpretations of what my kermi is or me for sleeping with this 'thing.' Either way...we're all sick/in need of therapy.
Incidentally, since I posted on this thread, I've gotten constructive comments on how to 'save' the photo. Don't torture yourselves trying to offer up help...it's hopeless, I know. :P~~~~
I have to confess to not being overly impressed with Velvet Antlers. But it had nothing to do with 'not getting it' or feeling it 'missed the challenge'. I saw the antlers, saw the velvet, said "there's the challenge."
My problem came from two areas really...
The deer are in shadow while the foreground and the road in the back are in bright sun. This pulled my eye off the deer. (I KNOW that you can't say "ok deer, could you move into the sun and smile", I never said it could be fixed... just said it bothered me)
Second, the road didn't do alot for me really. And the white pole on the other side of the road was the death nail.
Mind you, I'm not saying I hate the shot. I gave it a 5 actually. Not one of my highest votes but certainly far from the worst. I'm just saying that it had a snapshot, opportunity knocks feel. A nice snap shot, and one I'd be showing my friends. But I just didn't think it made it for me as a contender for high honors in a photo contest.
But that's just me...
PS ~ I have a great deal of respect for alot of your work Bob... Valley and Automobiles are likely to be added to my favorites list next time I sit down to agonize over which ones to add. I just didn't feel this shot compares to them.
My neighbor can see me sitting in front of PC.....she can also here me laughing at my screen. I know she thinks I'm drinking. If roar with laughter she looks over here. Aww...no fun. Alright pull my submission (pleeeez) or how about if everyone who's read this thread goes back and gives me a one to penalize me for discussing my photo/comments...that would hurt more...I'd have a puny score really dragging that average down. Whip me, spank me...I've been a bad bad girl. :P (In all seriousness, I'll try to comply in the future).

Oh, Lisa, please, don't take this personal. It was not AT ALL my intention to attack you or anybody else. But since this thread in the course of a day became a source of much entertainment and presumably much traffic, it might start a (bad) tendency to start discussing one's submission during voting.
Let me give an extreme example: Someone is very proud of his submission and receives some negative feedback. By Tuesday, she/he starts posting that people are just "not getting" the subtleties deliberately employed in his picture. I.e. voters are put on the spot and they may possibly revise their votes and comments in order to avoid coming across as dimwits. Fair? I don't think so.
On the other issue, sticking to the topic, I have given quite a bit of thought and find it is only right to penalize a picture to some extent if it does not meet the challenge. People go out of their way to come up with ideas to meet the challenge. And the big fun is to see 200+ totally different interpretations of the same assignment. There is an obstacle attached to meeting this challenge and I feel it is fair to downtick someone for not meeting it or poorly. Under Autool's method, a flawless, beautiful picture that is totally off topic could still fetch a 7 or 8 rating!
Last week I did a nice shot (at least I think so) of a waterfall (like to do nature shots). For my first submission I picked something that I don't usually do (and it is good to be forced to expand your horizon because of those challenges). What I submitted is getting horrible scores but that is okay. I have learned a great deal from the experience. The waterfall shot would have gotten better scores probably but I wouldn't have learned a thing from submitting that.
Finally, pardon my pontificating, if periodically there is a Free Study challenge, one can always submit to one's heart desire.
I didn't take it personally at all and I really do think I should be penalized...I was only making fun of myself for begging for disqualification or 1's with my 'whip me, spank me' routine...I'm just having fun and no stinkin' lame-o rule quoter's going to ruin it! :P JUST KIDDING!
You're right. All it took was a few other people commenting on their own photos pre-contest close and I thought it must be acceptable to do the same. What's the best punishment? Disqualification, suspension, automatic score of 1, have the prefix 'cheater' added to your username for a month, oooo, how about a permanent record?
