I'm not very good at this web design thing, but I'm experimenting. Here is what I have, what do you think of the photos on it?

well, it's showing up as just one long horizontal scrolling page.
wish is w/o a doubt not right. you are missing some 's after each element(picture,text).
i'd suggest downloading a webdesign program like 'hotdog' or one of the free ones floating around the net.
If you are after clients then don't use a free web-space with somebody's ads. There are a lot of places that can host your own site (I think Tripod also does it for some money - not sure).
OK, I'm only seeing two photos and "Jennifer Sanderson Photography." No scrolling up or down or left to right. I'm using Firefox. Is this weird or is it just me?
I personally like the left-to-right movement. It's becomming more and more popular amongst the world of photography websites for some reason. At first, I didn't like it either, but it grows on you the more you see.
I think there could be some sort of line above/below you know? There should be no up/down movement if your site is designed to go left-right. Basically, without that ad, your site would be perfect.
the reason for the left-right scrolling is because it is less complex to use, i haven't the slightest idea how to use html or any other webdesign softwear. personally i like this method, it looks cleaner and its like reading a book. (well unless you're japanese). i like it.
also, the tripod hosting it just a test. until i figure out this whole webpage design, then i'll buy some better space.
The images look nice. As robs said, you should lose the ads if you plan on doing this professionally. The ads get annoying and can make a great looking site cluttered and unprofessional. If it's a "just for fun" page then no worries.
I'm not a fan of the horizontal scroll. That's actually a pet peeve of mine. It's not typically the 'natural' way people use their browser.
I would also make your email address a working link so people can just click and mail without typing it out.
There are lots of tutorial sites on the net. I would look at a few or check for free templates to use. :-)
I think most users are accustomed to having to scroll up and down. Not very many will appreciate scrolling left and right.
Quick question: How many users have a mouse with a scroll button on it and use it to scroll web pages up and down? (bet there are lots)
Follow-up question: How many users have a mouse that scrolls left to right? How many get irritated over having to needlessly scroll left and right?
Not trying to be overly critical of your work. The graphics look fine. I just think you'll leave people with the wrong impression.
Funny thing is, I just bought a new mouse, and almost broke down and spent an extra $20 for one that has a tilt wheel so you can scroll left and right. Then I realized that I never need that capability so I went for the cheaper one. Little did I know...
the pictures are amazing, except the horozontal scrolling has to go, as a web designer i know that when people see that they immediately get turned off. You might want to look into getting software like dreamweaver or some other program, i know microsoft front page has a click and drag system where its easy to design the website
or you can just do what i did and view the source of websites and learn the code :\
I also like the horizontal scrolling. I used to post mine that way before I got too lazy to post anything. Everyone has their own preferences. I happen to detest that Simpleviewer thing that everyone else is falling all over themselves for.
i like the side scrolling too, ive seen a few more professional sites that use it... //www.nabilphotography.com is one example. The only thing about it is that the side scrolling can sometimes detract from the impact of one image, but when you have good collections it works well. I think it works well for you, but it would be nice if you could have your shots organized as opposed to just one page, and yea without the ads. I do like the layout style though.
i use imhosted.com and love them. It costs me 9.95 a month and its cheaper if you buy a year or 2 year contract. With 2 gig of storage and 100gig of transfer per month it is a bargain. I use it alot as an ftp site for transfering file from home, to class, to office to friends.
They are great for beginners as well as the more advanced (php programmers). Im hosted on an apache server so no asp or cold fusion, but javascript works and thats all I use.
They have tutorials for easy uploading for first timers. Great alternative to the free sites and alot of room for expansion as you web design skills advance.
