Woke up this morning to the reports in London. I immediately thought of the DPC people. I was happy to see this thread had started. My hearts and prayers go out to all who live there. One day is filled with elation from being awarded the Olympic games and then the next is filled with terror. Life can be SO unfair. God bless you all. I admire the strength and resolve.
I can't find anything on news services about bodies found in King's Cross or about a suicide bomber shot or apprehended by police.
If anyone has reliable news sources for these stories, please post.
Thank you.
BTW, ew, I think it's perfectly natural to want to know where your images are used, even if the subject matter is a horrible event like this. Life does go on and all our normal human interests still exist. If I see any of them I'll let you know.
Busses are running again, people are calm (albeit miffed at the delays), and the ones who'se work are totally disrupted, are planning on giong to the pub.
Sign of a truly civilised nation - faced with bombings we complain about the buses and look for an excuse for a pint :-)
i know that there are a lot of friendships that have been formed on DPC (and elsewhere), which really makes this world seem smaller.
You're not kidding. I've had a lot of calls from UK friends (and my family, of course) but to receive one from a concerned friend in the USA that I originally met via another hobby website (travel related) was a very warming thing.
My DPC friends were certainly immediately included in the mental list I started drawing up almost immediately of friends who live and work in the affected areas.

This is why as an American living i London.. I absolutely love this town and the country. I really think this country's theme music should be Monty Python soundtracks..
My prayers are for all those affected today.. what a day..
I just heard the news as my alarm clock went off this morning...I am glad to read that so many of you are safe, but I am also sad to hear the news reports about so many people suffering through injury or loss. My thoughts are with all of you!
Sounds like a lot more fatalities than we'd all hoped - BBC News website is not updating very often but other news sources such as Sky have started estimating numbers and it's well over 40.
Pretty terrific that you don't let it get you down.
Take care.
ALice
Thanks Alice. It's not that it doesn't get us down but that Brits tend to try and focus on the positive aspects of any scenario and also to show to the world that they are not easily cowed.
It's a sad day. The numbers of deaths are clearly higher than we were all hoping - that estimate of 40 deaths is the latest one I can find - but, on the whole, we try to keep smiling.
To lock ourselves away would be to give them more satisfaction than the bastards must already be feeling.
I've been reading some of the reports from ordinary people who were on the trains that suffered the explosions and it sounds like they experienced some horrific things there.
...What God could endorse this or any other terrorism?
Imagineer, not to defend these terrorist at all or belittle what has happened, but just last week I watched a report with a gentleman (I can't remember who he was) who has been researching the last 20 years worth of terrorist attacks in different parts of the world and has found that the vast majority of them are NOT God related at all... Living in a "free" country I guess I take for granted the fact that if someone takes what is mine I can usually go to the police and get my justice and don't have to blow them up for my revenge.
The Al-Qaeda statement (widely accepted to be genuine)
"In the name of God, the merciful, the compassionate, may peace be upon the cheerful one and undaunted fighter, Prophet Muhammad, God's peace be upon him.
Nation of Islam and Arab nation: Rejoice for it is time to take revenge against the British Zionist Crusader government in retaliation for the massacres Britain is committing in Iraq and Afghanistan. The heroic mujahideen have carried out a blessed raid in London. Britain is now burning with fear, terror and panic in its northern, southern, eastern, and western quarters.
We have repeatedly warned the British Government and people. We have fulfilled our promise and carried out our blessed military raid in Britain after our mujahideen exerted strenuous efforts over a long period of time to ensure the success of the raid.
We continue to warn the governments of Denmark and Italy and all the Crusader governments that they will be punished in the same way if they do not withdraw their troops from Iraq and Afghanistan. He who warns is excused.
God says: "You who believe: If ye will aid (the cause of) Allah, He will aid you, and plant your feet firmly."

Erm - no! We lead by example. We will not be afraid.
I hope that we will also set an example to the rest of the world by pursuing the terrorists using law enforcement measured, not military measures. I hope that we bring the perpetrators to trial while upholding all of the principles of justice that I hold true. It is only by setting a great example to the rest of the world, by holding our values high and sticking to our principles, regardless of the pain we have suffered, that we can hope to change anything.
It may be a hope too far: the UK government has demonstrated recenetly a flagrant disregard for principles of justice and human rights when it comes to the terrorist threat. That kind of action will only breed resentment, and increase the threat in the long term.
This sort of thing is happening in Iraq and Afghanistan everyday and it doesn't get as much coverage! What is the difference I ask?
One of the differences, at least to me, is that in Iraq and Afghanistan, we more or less expect this kind of thing to happen...they're in war zones. Not London, or New York, or Madrid...and the list goes on. :(
