Some people just plug in a number on all the pics so that they can then do their real voting in thumbnail view. This person probably just went through all the pics and hit 1. Don't loose any sleep. I'm sure they will go back and adjust their scores later.
I'm not big on requiring comments... maybe after someone has voted on a few challenges the admins could display a graph of what the distribution of scores looks like... would only reveal trends in a person's scores, e.g.:

There'd have to be warning before it started, of course, but I don't think that kind of thing would be unfair.

My picture doesn't entirely meet the challenge, but I like it anyway. I think I've come to the realization that I'm not too concerned if I don't get high scores. I like the challenges, I like taking pictures, and it's exciring to watch the results. Don't get me wrong, scoring high is great, but I don't stress if I don't score high. There will be another challenge before you know it, and hey in the meantime maybe I'll learn something.

Thats even worse in my book. How can you give a objective score on a photo by looking at a thumbnail of it? I would rather think that it is a "Troll" just out lowering scores for fun!

As far as I know, its impossible to vote on a thumnbnail.
Once you have voted on a picture you can then go to the thumbnails and change the votes. This is why often the votes will rise after a few days as people readjust their votes.
See 'more" grain? Oh FFS. The subject matter is grain--does it really have to be a wide shot of sand?
I wish people would use their imaginations more (in an artistic sense) in these challenges and not subscribe to only hard & fast rules. If we all just took pix of grains ("Oh look! A pyramidal shot of sugar! Wow. How different it looks from the pyramidal shot of salt in the previous photo!")
I've seen really great photos get eh scores because they didn't subscribe to hard n fast rules.
Back to topic, eh, 4.6. Not the worst but nonetheless the photo isn't THAT bad. I decided after my absymal take at my first challenge that I'm not going to lose sleep over my scores.
I do think that DPC moderators/monitors should disallow the person who gives all 1's to photos. There has to be some idjit* who is handing out all 1's (it would explain some really great photos getting downscored in past challenges).

Nobody cared to comment once sofar, but I don't care, I'm not such a competitive person anyway and writing comments on every photo you vote for will take forever. I'm still satisfied with the score.
I am one of the idiots and not afraid to admit it .....i will go through the first time and sort out the picture into 4 catagories....
catagory 1 I do not like the picture
catagory 2 It has average appeal
catagory 3 It has above average appeal
catagory 4 outstanding...blew me away
then i go back through the week and move them to within more specific scores....commenting where i can....then i continue to review them until the deadline making sure i have spent a good amount of time on each photo...
I never submit a photo thinking i deserve a certain score....how can you possibly be objective of your own work....
Expect nothing out of life, then....everything you get is gravy
i totaly love my entry and had decided not to enter untill i pulled this photo off the camera. i dont think its the best out there by far but its a personal fav which means it will totally bomb! ;o)
i think my entrys are just on the verge of falling out of the box. i have found my "click" for photography thanks to DPC."photos with flair" ,i think, is what i am going to call it. :o)
