I decided to pull mine. My silhouettes entry took a huge dive today, so I interpreted that as a sign that entering another that I know cannot possibly do well would be a stupid idea :) Here's the outtake though... my score prediction was around 4.0, perhaps even 3.xxx.

Still don't quite understand this lighting challenge. Is it not true that every photograph must have a light source? If that's the case, how does one vote on whether the shot used a light source? :) The light source is always the key element of a good photograph, in my opinion. If it wasn't, we wouldn't have photographs. :)

I agree, but in this case, the lighting needs to be more of an element of focus or subject.
I was pretty impressed with the lot. Very good work for the most part.
Thought this came out pretty well for ISO 800 and my first time taking pictures of a band... but then I figured that other kinds of shots often impress DPC voters more, and submitted something entirely different instead.
It seems to me that to vote this challenge rationally you need to look at the entries and say "Does the lighting MAKE this shot?" A shot OF light, or of "a" light, is not necessarily a "good" answer to the challenge, although of course it may be. For me the challenge is about sensitivity to light, about USING light creatively to make an image sing.
It doesn't have to be blatant, but it should be "pure"...
I have had so much trouble with this challenge trying to decide which image to use. I have never taken so many photos for a challenge before and it really became quite frustrating and now my score indicates that the shot I picked isn't going to be a real high score.
This one was my next choice but I don't think it would have scored very well also.
They are all on the same theme. The one with three glasses, the rear glass had just clear water in it - the light going through the yellow and blue made the glass glow green.
this was my original submission, then I pulled it because..... I just did.
The submission I entered had more to do about lighting, then about lighting effects.
I call this "Turning into a Teen"

The second (the actual entry) doesn't really speak to the topic for me. The first (the discarded one) has its lighting effect added in post processing, apparently. I wouldn't have expected that to do any better...
