To answer the original question, i believe so. Its my Jewelry Entry and i'm scoring at 6.7 at the moment, which is very nice. I'm very proud of the pic i entered and its probably my best i've submitted on DPC so far.
It seems to me that many of the the photos with the highest scores are 'eye candy', which to me comes to mean, easy on the eyes, light on the brain. I also think that many people do not think about the complexities of a given shot, as in how technically difficult it was to shoot, when they make their judgments. I wish there was a more structured system to the voting. I have only entered one challenge and I scored in the 4th percentile--ouch--although that's a bummer and I don't think my photo was great, not do I think it was technically lacking, at least not in the 4th % kind of way. I also recognize that the voters are a very diverse group of people who look for very different things in a 'great' photo.
My highest rated photo is definitely the image I think is strongest out of my challenge entries and I'm really proud of it.
Contrary to a couple of the comments it wasn't just a case of being there = can't miss the shot - I was lying face down on the very cold ground on penguin and seal poo for over half an hour before I got the shot.

Well I don't concider myself a landscape photographer, but it does appear that I have quite a few in my collection here as well as over on //www.pbase.com/crabappl3
I would say as far as landscape shots go, this is one of my bests, but I wouldn't think it's the best photo I have ever taken... that, would be too hard to decide.
My highest rated shot is pretty with a deep depth of field, true white/black points and a solid range of tones. The composition is equally simple, ordered and familiar from millions of other images like it. The photo carries no particular emotional charge, has no agenda, invites no conceivable controversy. It is, for all intent and purposes, a photo rendering a tangible subject accurately. Its aesthetics, also, are borrowed from the subject. It is a taken photograph of an outer reality.
My best shots either do not receive the same kind of exposure (by display, not by metering), because they have not been spawned in pursuit of a challenge topic but via an inevitable involvement with the nature of a thing, being, location or circumstance.
These are photographs which in themselves are subjects and rather gritty than pretty, which, I suppose, is commensurate with human experience, the state of affairs or the nature of nature, depending on individual perspectives.
The real difference between these two kinds of images, to me, lies in the amount of heat (a form of energy) they pack. The pretty ones are, of course, comforting to those who seek comfort. The gritty ones will appeal to the few to whom heat is fuel.
My highest score so far is from the Rock, Paper, Scissors challenge. I learned alot from it, but it's not something I'd hang on my wall. My favorite, of those submitted here, is my lowest scoring photo. It's on my computer desktop at work and I get lots of positive comments on it from folks who see it.
I think this is one of my best shots, and it was never entered in a challenge. I chose to enter my Free Study submission instead !! I guess this photo grew on me with time.
Well my highest rater would be up near my best, my dog Jack below. It scored 6.274 which only placed me 65% for the challenge it was in (deja vu). On average that score would get near a top ten or so ....oh well. I have had a few people tell me my best work are the ones never submitted....maybe I'm making some wrong choices here ! Here he is,
I think my best images are currently in challenges at the present. One is just over a 5.5 and the other 4.9. The 5.5 in Jewelry is sold and has gotten me some work doing three other pieces. While I respect DPC, challenge wise, there are greater judges elseware in some cases. An art buyer friend who purchases for a web design company said my Mininalism 4.9 was Pulitzer material. Now thats probably an exageration but I'll store that one right next to my ego, you can be sure.
My free study entry here, is next to it's outake. Did I do the right thing? I love the action in the single horn shot but didn't like the hood over his head. I went for the double horn because I thought it was more unique where I now think I could have a used more background.
I'm really proud of the Lime Fizz but I needed to crop the livin daylights out of it losing sharpness but it still did well.
I like this one because the composition brought out every aspect of the various different lines and important angles in the image. Still could be sharper. For me it's a little boring. I hope it's not my best.
I wouldn't say it's my best shot ever, but this one is one of my favorites.
Besides been my highest rated photo, it's the highest rated one for my camera model.
I kinda like the sound of that. I'm #1 in that LoL
