I think that with all the talent on htis site that ppl just half assed this challenge. My entry I think was pretty good but Im use to getting blown away at these things. When I voted today I was really disapointed maybe Im being harsh? It just seems that its all posed and faked. Just my opinion and Im no expert.
Well I know I tried my best with my photo. In fact I submitted my photo 3 times because I wasn't happy with it the first two times. Just because the photo isn't 100% creative doesn't mean its not a good photo. I usually judge on four things:
1. Is it a good quality photo?
2. Does it meet the challenge?
3. Does it move me in any sort of way?
4. How does it compare to the rest of the photos?
Does anyone else do their judging in a similar way?
Also, I have to admit I have been trying to comment more. Only because I hate when I have 300 people vote on my image and I get a whole 5 comments... lol

As are they all, my friend. Look back at the bottom 15 photos of every challenge. There are ALWAYS some terrible pictures. Always. Since the beginning of my time here.
I try to judge on the exact same things eosstyles.
I must admit I entered a picture I think is not all that great, but it's the first contest I've entered. I thought that while the topic was a difficult one it was a good one for me to test the waters. Must admit as well I got tired of looking at all the pets and people with faces in hands. Mine no exception.

I fully agree with you on that point... I perhaps should have opted for the term many as opposed to some.
It was always going to be a hard shot to capture without too much staging or taking a spin on it.
But I agree that I haven't given out as many low scores (on average) as for the bored challenge.
I vote very similarly to 'eostyles', esp for the 1st three, hovering over the number 5 to vote - then adding or subtracting points for quality, challenge (including size), emotion, skill (incl focus), composition and lighting.
Many of the 'bored' entries started at 5 and went down and never recovered...

I tried to think out of the box for this one, because I anticipated exactly this situation. Many photos with people holding their head in their hands, and many sleeping dogs (which mostly aren't bored, but simply sleeping). Being creative didn't work that well so far though... hovering around 5,6.

I didn't participate in that challenge, and I'm not going to vote. When 20 out of 25 shots are of someone staring off into space with their hand on their face......BORING! Anyway, there is one shot of [challenge entry]. Great Photo. I hope it wins, but I don't want to vote on too many of the others. Not at least 20 percent anyway. So good luck to the person who took that photo.

I was also stunned at the limited exploration of the theme--I like this site most for getting me to stretch my narrow mind thematically. But I will vote, if only so that the cream can reach the top.
6 comments in the first morning on my entry, which is a fair amount, maybe it's different enough to do ok.
I was out of town all week. Went to a zoo. Thought, well maybe this would fit the challenge--or not. Could be interpreted as contentment or sleep or relaxation.
But, it is a fine photograph. Despite the fact I have a low score, I have zero comments. I know, it's early for comments....but then I read in a related thread that some people admit to taking the effort to hand out low scores, but it would bore them too much to have to comment on the vast horde of mediocre images.
My image is not mediocre.
It fits the challenge.
It is scoring low.
Put your effort where your score button is and do the right thing!
If my entry is crappy, let me have it!
If you have an opinion that my image deserves anything less than a 5, tell me why.
You didn't enter? You still voted low? Then you are in the best position to tell me the flaws you found in my photo! Objective. Dispassionate. Lay it on!

Sometimes I do most of my comments after the initial voting, where the ones I liked best or worst are in their own little group for easy commenting, or when I'm having trouble getting a feel for the theme before seeing what the offerings are, don't want to make irrelevant comments. YMMV.
I haven't looked at the images yet, but cannot agree that images of people looking bored, or of animals likewise, or of classically 'boring' situations (like queues, waiting for buses, trains, whatever) are necessarily going to bore one's audience - it seems to me like a great opportunity for some real observation, gentle humour or wit, and examination of the way we live our lives today.
Looking through the 'bored' pictures, I'm having a hard time deciding whether or not to cast any votes because I haven't exactly been overly excited by the standard of the work submitted. Maybe I should take another look in the morning. I didn't compete in this one.
