An organization set up to help those with a common passion and without the means to do it.I'd be interested in something like that.
Need would have to be determined by a "board" made up of all different social and economical backgrounds to be fair.
Requests could be sent to the board through email or perhaps with enough interest, a website could be developed??
I would be willing to sit on the board...any other takers?
I'd be glad to provide webspace and spring for a domain if needed.
That is a great idea. I am getting ready to help abused and mentally challenged children learn photography. I was asked to do this by a teacher at a school. These kids won't hardly talk and I was asked to spend maybe a couple of hours a month with these kids and take them out to photgraph things. Also to teach them how to do it better. Kinda like a mentoring thing. I know I want to do this but can't afford to buy them all cameras. Something like this would definatly help. I have found some Vivitar cameras at Wal-Mart for $40 bucks. I am sure I can find cheaper.
Martin, it's weird--it added shipping and handling to my donation. Not a big deal but weird, and that means the number you specify isn't what get's set up. You might want to fix that before a lot of people visit to donate.
I'm in too...with current euro/dollar exchange rate my 15 dollar will only be around 11 euro's. Don't want to mis that great photo's Lisa takes around the central coast.

I don't know what is up with the shipping and handling thing. I checked my Paypal account and it isn't charging everyone. Only some of the transactions are being charged. The dropcash template had no such option. I don't think it will hurt. I may have a dollar or two over after the Paypal transaction fees. We can think of something good to do with the extra.
It's up to 59% now, really nice to see how fast it's climbing. Makes you feel good knowing there are this many people out there willing to help out when needed....
Since the total amount jumps by the amount of the donation AND the s&h charge, I believe that all goes towards the camera. SO, no worries about dropcash or paypal taking a %.
Also, paypal won't charge you for bank transfers (which is what I used). Paypal charges only for the credit card payments, so people, if you have set up your paypal to your bank acct, you may opt to do that as your $$$ will go longer way...
by the way, today is the International women's day (widely celebrated in Russia and someother parts of the world, not so much here in the US). Congratulations to all you girls, and to Lisa in particular!

I meant the exchange rate in genral is not very good. :( this is a bad thing when B+H is so close but still on american soil and when like me you have a very bad addiction to buying EF-L lenses.

I love the world today. Tomorrow I can go back to the comforting feelings of pain and emptiness but today I have the scary notion that humanity might be ok. So much of my whining and angst has ceased to have basis in fact. For this community anyway.
Not that ever spent much time whining or angst-ridden, it's way too cliched.
