Do you ever wonder just how everyone has voted on your picture? I always wish I knew who gave me the tens and for sure who gave me the ones. Knowing this would give a great deal of input to the photographer if they could tell how their fellow voters voted. I have nothing to hide about the vote I give a picture, and have many times listed my vote with my comment. Never have I had any negative feedback from this method. It would sure be interesting to see who and how just once.
Some people just knock off a point for things like not meeting the challenge, but if I don't see any connection to the challenge (even if it's a stellar picture) then I give you a 1. Or if your picture is just horrible .. again a 1.

I happen to have some disagreements with the opinions, and "explanations" for the questions which were asked. But, I have no problem with the person voting as they wish, and appreciate the detailed comment regardless of whether I agree with it. I can easily wait until the challenge is done to comment on the comments (several others are in a similar vein).
If people could just "listen" to the comments without feeling compelled to respond, we'd all get a lot more and better feedback.

I think the system should force a voter to provide feedback if giving a 1. This could be held anonymously so no one would know who it was but atleast you would get to see the reason for it.

Careful when you say 'those people'...don't most of us give out a 1 occasionally?

Yes... sometmes I do. So I guess I am one of "Those People". However.. I tend to give out 4 for a bad photo. I stay away from 3, 2 , 1.
I just wanted to know if other people cared what their peers gave them. I am surprised to know so many don't seem to.
I saw 1's given to some of your photos that are truly excellent. That's just plainly a silly voter. That's why I often don't care about my 1's.

With a 1, somebody just doesn't like the photo at all and likely nothing could be done to change it. When somebody assigns a 4, there are often things that could have been done to bring that photo up to a 6 or 7 in that voter's eyes. That's who I'd like to hear from.

Yeh, then I would just give you a two. Some images are beyond comments. I've seen some that were so bad that I figured the owner was either trying for the brown or hadn't a clue. Either way I don't see how telling them "Hey, your picture looks like mud" is going to help. If I see redeeming qualities in an image but notice something is holding it back I may comment. I don't comment on all the images because I don't have the time.
I think it should be kept secret on how a person votes. The grudge factor or get even factor could enter into the voting. There are ppl now that will vote against flowers, babies, and the flag no matter how artistic the picture is.

And yet those are the very ones which get the fewest comments, because it takes thought and time to offer suggestions more practical and specific than "great job" or "this sucks." I know, because I have a harder time commenting on them myself.

Exactly, when a 1 is assigned to a photo...there's nothing to comment about. With a 4 or 5, it might just take a change in composition, better timing, larger dof, better post-processing or whatever to turn it into a great photo.
