Yeah, I was thinking earlier that if you could gag comments from some users on your photos it would get rid of the problem. Doing that in the forums is a bit trickier because then you can lose the continuity of the discussion, but for comments on photos it would make a lot of sense.
But then I'm sure people would go overboard and gag people who gave them advice they didn't like... oh, you always tell me to crop closer jmsetzler, I'm tired of you... GAG!
It's a sad world we live in sometimes. You are right Lisae that some of these guys won't learn anything from this. I know they probably love this but we have to take some sort of stand to show the public that all races and nationalities should feel welcome here. I just don't feel comfortable with the "ignore them" tactic.

lol... cropping is just a personal opinion.. there is no right or wrong way.. :) It's just like exposure i think :)
and, yes, being able to ignore specific users would cause some amount of chaos in a forum thread because quoted replies to their messages would still be part of the thread...
i'm astounded by the response to this forum. as a child growing up on the 60's, i was called a nigger/nigga by many non-black adults. this is something that i'll never forget and seeing that used for a photo critique, was totally out of line. art will always be a personal interpertation. i think this site is an absolutely fabulous forum to learn the fast paced world of digital photography. i've just recently received a hand-me-down camera without a manual or any reference material. so i'm learning by doing and enjoying all of your fantastic submissions. i get a kick out of viewing all of your art on monday mornings. i've learned from the tips and advice, even some of the insults at least make you think about your productions. i know the world is hateful but can't we all just get along? thank you.

Aww, shucks. My entire extended family, except for me, is spending the week with my grandparents down South...who say 'y'all', call me 'Miss Kim' and cook collard greens and pole beans and all that good stuff. I miss it :-)
Many say this Iban is just a kid that hasn't learned that you shouldn't say in public what you say to your friends. Maybe the site owners could email him a reasonable, calm, respectful suggestion that this kind of behavior isn't welcome here and to please clean up his language as the grownups that benefit from the site don't want to hear it.
If, as some suggested, this is just a well educated kid who hasn't learned proper manners, he might just say "Oh, sorry!" and clean up his act.
If it turns out he's just a dyed in the wool, homophobic, bigotted idiot with no social skills, then the heavier hand can (and most certainly should) be applied. We all need to remember that in the 1930's, Hitler's Brown Shirts were just "harmless kids having fun".

hey myq (cool name!). you're new here. so you dont know that we've already gone through this and similar stuff with the same person for months now.
it used to be his comments were along the line of ' dumb.' 'stupid.' 'lame.'
But he's 'graduated' up to his current level of eloquence. it's a long story but he's part of a little group of hangers-on that know one of the site admins. so they sort of 'came with the site'.
for some reason they are dedicated to messing with the people here. its been going on for a long time...

Sugar in cornbread?!? No way. I make the best buttermilk corn bread in my iron skillet. Just don't ask me to make bisquits. Mine come out hard and look like little cauliflowers.

Biscuits are evil. I buy mine frozen and just put them in theh oven when I need them. Why would you put sugar in cornbread? Of course, the people that do that probably wonder why we put sugar in tea and serve it over ice. I'm surprised no one has mentioned grits.
That's cause we were going over a supper menu. Grits are best in the morning with those frozen biscuits, eggs, and sausages.
Nicowens, hawg jawls (hog jowls) are the fatty meat on a pig's face. I was surprised no one asked about cracklin. That comes from the pig's skin (I think) and the old folks liked to add it to their corn bread. All I know is it is chewy and in no way adds to the flavor of the corn bread.
I guess the moral of all this turnaround in subject matter is for us to celebrate our diversity.
