I am not doing anything special for Australia day. I might just sit at home and watch the tennis. Hey there is two Aussies in the signles quarters for the first time in a long time lol I don't think any woman has made it in my lifetime and I only remember one guy doing it I think.
I am just happy to have a nice day off in the middle of the week lol Working two days, taking one off, working two, and then taking off another two seems like a good work week to me lol
It would be a good chance to get some firework shots though for the light challenge lol Although I don't have my teleconverter at the moment.
I spent Aussie Day two years ago with a hundred Aussies on the island of Diego Garcia....drank more VB than I have ever seen before...ate more bbq and they always had vegemite in for breakfast anyway so that was not new... except they told me VB was VIRGIN BEER instead of its real name...hahaha

Vegemite is just a bred spread. I have personally never tasted it myself. It has a very strong flavour though and smell. Most people say you have to grow up on it to like it. I am not sure whats in it though.
I am not sure there is such thing as an average BBQ. I think it would be pretty much the same here as it is the US though. I guess its just cooking some meat on the bbq and sitting around outside enjoying the weather and each others company. I am sure a lot would also get drunk too, but I don't see that as a necessary since I myself have never been to that kind of bbq.
I will personally be watching mad max, blaring the Hoodoo Gurus, eating mutton and doing bong hits out of a digideroo(sp.)
Mutton would be the NZ thing. Ausies raise more cattle per person then we do here in the US. So though I'm sure there is plentiful mutton for anyone who might prefer it, beef would be more appropriate Assie dish.
Lamb is big here too. There is a huge Aussie advertising campaign on at the moment trying to get people to eat lamb on Australia day as its very Aussie. The ad says that you are un Australian if you dont eat it.
Any red meat is very Aussie. Although I personally only really eat beef myself.

Lamb and mutton are two different things. (one is a bit older) If you prefer beef over lamb you would probably hate mutton. It's tougher then goat and tastes as strong. It is common fair (mutton) in NZ though, where they have thought up many wonderful ways to make it taste almost as good as goat.

Typical Aussie BBQ consist of beers cheers and more beers and then eat something that is probably way over cooked but you think it taste great.
Vegemite is a black and tacky yeast extract food spread. Taste like sh-t when you first have it but becomes quite addictive.
Great on toast the morning after.
i believe vegemite is an aquired taste. I love it but my kids don't.
Tomorrows BBQ consists of lamb, kebabs, sausages, steak, onions/tomato and of course followed by many beers and a really uncoordinated game of cricket. I will probably have veges on the BBQ or make a potato bake. Yummmmm, it is nearly lunch time.
Me and the kids love the stuff. The wife isn't so keen. Its perfect on taost on those mornings when you wake up with a bit of a furry tongue or when you have the flu and can't taste anything else. Love it.
