Or posibly putting the Quote button to the left of the Report Post button because as we read left to right that is the first thing I come to and the first thing that I want to click.
Yes, but the page (yes I had to look at it) looks very similar to the post content page. I wonder how many will post and not realize they are reporting. :D

We'll keep an eye on this, and this is certainly a good suggestion.
So far I haven't seen any accidental reports, and none of the other SC members have mentioned it in our internal forum. That said, if we see signs of a problem this is certainly a very good suggestion to consider.
I think this button should be in “RED” . Just my 2cents.
It is really, really distracting when it is red. As you're scrolling through, reading posts, your eye just keeps jumping to the red "report post" button. (The initial version of the button was red.) Kinda like in photography how your eye is always drawn to the brightest part of the photo first... same sorta thing.

I understand that ‘red’ maybe distracting. In that case I agree with moving the button IF it becomes a problem. I know each time I go to click [quote] I almost put my cursor on the report button, but haven’t click it by mistake.
How about moving it below the post and and when you click on it you get an alert saying you are about to report a post and better have a damn good reason for it?

heh...I know every suggestion means a ton more work for you guys -- but taking you to a page that will 'confirm' the post report sounds like a good idea to me. I'm a moderator on a local sportbike forums web page and we get a few accidental reports a day.
I was just wondering if there is any accepted definition of what constitutes a "Personal Attack" here. I do hope that this feature will not serve to constrain the honest and frank exchange of views and opinions. As an adult , I am not easily offended by a little "name calling".
There are many cultural and political, and intellectual differences within the membership and I accept that an honestly expressed opinion may invoke an "inflamed" response from someone who may passionately hold to a different point of view. If someone calls me (for example) an ignorant, narrow minded hypocrite...is that a personal attack ? I personally don't think so.
If this issue has been previously defined would someone please point me to the answer.
I agree it's too easy here to press by accident. I came here to suggest moving it but I see others see the same problem. I woud like to see it moved to the left by the date/time. I don't think it should be red--I think the less "obvious" it is, the more it's in the background and non-distracting. We'll find it when we need it.
I am of two minds on this suggestions and can see both sides; for, and against, such a button.
Sure, it might help ferret out and ultimately eliminate evildoers, but at the same time, does it not turn our community into a pack of "squealing" little monkeys? Obviously, I still want to think about this idea more before I decide.
But, I must wonder if it is even really necessary? At the end of the day, it should have some interesting outcomes, if nothing else.

BUT however the page that opens when you click the report post button should be in different colour from the usual forum colours, so you notice that you are in a different setting. The titleboxes could be red or something.
Then if you accidentally click Report instead of Quote you realise it right away.

Your example is borderline ... if the person who was the recipient of that comment reported it I might send a note or post a reply to the effect that some toning-down is in order. The most likely troublesome terms will be those with clearly racial/sexual overtones and terms which clearly label someone pejoratively.
The basic guideline is "criticise the action, not the person." Note the subtle differences between "That statement makes no sense to me" and "you are an idiot."
