Comment by surfdabbler:
The model is very incidental in this shot, like you too a shot with a model, and then didn't like it, and tried to crop them out, but couldn't quite get rid of them. Just a bit odd. The mirror makes it very hard to focus on the main subject of the shot.

Terrible subject. Mediocre execution at best. Sorry. Poor focus, average composition, poor to average lighting ...
Would you like fries with that?

From the Critique Club

Hi- Your photograph technically is good in many ways. Good focus and composition along with the lighting. With the lighting almost directly above it created some shadows that are distracting but not much.

You have done a good job of processing. This photograph works well with your black and white conversion while keeping great detail in the subjects face.

Here is where I think things went wrong with your photograph. I have to agree with the other commenter's that the photograph looks staged and the man does not look homeless. But thats does not mean he is not. He also looks as if he is posing for your picture and your title is made to be on the funny sided. When you take all those variables and combine them they take away from the emotion of the shot.

If the man would of been looking anywhere other then directly into the lens and propping up fries as to show a pose. Also the man looking a little more rugged would of helped and a deeper title. I think your score would of been higher.

Overall a good photograph with good technical aspects. That lost a lot of its emotion with the pose, subject, and title. BTW I know you could not do anything about how he looked. I think he is a very interesting subject to photograph. I hope you are able to meet up with him again and get a good portrait shot. Looks like a lot of stories could be told with that face.

Keep up the good work and I hope you find this critique helpful.
regards,
SDW

Good concept.
Focus is a bit off.
Is that someones hair on top?
If so, that person should've been included in the picture..
(as passed out, or something) to actually show the over indulgence..

Though that person may not necessarily want their face in a picture like this. LOL!
Still, you could've shown a person.. not a face..

I hate to say it, but the full-on, in your face snuff pic or druggie euphoria should have been shown here. The hint of hair just doesn't draw the viewer in enough to make an emotional connection.
