this is Berlin, isn't it? Great use of the location with that single person in the distance and the lights and shadows add even more mystery to that impressive memorial

a very interesting portrait of a city - I was looking quite a time and watching all the different features at display. The vivid colours are really appropriate, sharpness spot on. The laundry on the right edge is like a funny treat - the size doesn't seem to fit at all (guess it was a side effect of fixing distortion)

So sorry that your lovely firework display didn't score better.
The Challenge was about a resolution - something you want to achieve or change in the New Year: that is missing in your picture and maybe the reason why voters didn't rate it higher. This picture would have done better in the "Holiday Cheer" challenge I think.
Can you handle postprocessing? To darken the sky might have helped too. If you want me to help you just contact me, ok?
