Ok -- this is my second "I think it's too recognizable to be abstract." Yet this one is a lot closer than the first. I'm guessing it's just that I've seen to many slow water pictures for it to have any mystery. The over sharp with the slow is kind of interesting. But part of me wonders if just a part of this would have been much more effective. I guess I want my abstracts to have a bit of mystery or intrigue to it. And taking just part, like the upper left quadrant, I think could be much more interesting and make people want to dig a bit deeper into it. Which is translating into a 6.

So close, but not quite. I really wish you could have been on a ladder and ended up with the circles lining up one after another. It's really quite cool. I had to look deeper to figure out what was going on, since it didn't seem real. Which was fun. But after you figure it out, there's just too much space in between to make it "feel" right. Yet I can imagine what I want it to be. Which probably isn't fair, since it's most likely what you want it to be. But in my mind it's just not enough. That translates to a 6.

Is it abstract? Yes. Does it work for me? Yes. Not deeply, but well enough. I like the colors. I like the feeling of a riot. It's fun to explore for awhile. Though I'm not sure it would stand the test of time (hanging on the wall for a long period or wanting to view it over and over and over.) Which is translating to a 7. I'll have to come back to it tomorrow to see if it's really an 8.

I'm still not sure of my own definition of abstract. I'm not one that thinks that abstracts have to be blurry or unrecognizable. Yet this one doesn't seem that abstract to me. Perhaps it's because even though I recognize it, it doesn't end up drawing me in more and playing to my imagination. Which translates to a 5, I guess. I'm wanting more. sorry...

It works as an abstract for me. But then I start wondering how effective it is. It almost seems a bit too riotous. I'm curious what it would be like if it were just the upper right quadrant. I like the softness and sharpness of that part in particular. 6 as is. I'm wondering if it would be higher with just a selected part.

So I'm approaching this challenge wondering: 1. Is it abstract? 2. Do I like it? 3. Even if I don't particularly like it, is it evocative?

1. At first I thought "not particularly". But the more I looked at it, definitely. It becomes more about the lines and the shapes and makes my imagination run a bit more than a simple, declarative photo. Makes me think Life on Mars.

It works for me because it becomes more and more daunting and barren the more I look at it.

Lovely. And I do like that you used the cooler, darker white. I have a tendency to think that whites need to be bright and almost blown. Lovely!
